Ah, year's end ... the season of retrospection. Who am I to fight tradition? (Well, a non-traditionalist, that's who. Nevertheless, I shall indulge :-) )

Happier if you don't know? |
Let's begin with "
The Most Disappointing Movies of 2012," many of them SF or fantasy. From those that I've seen, I have to agree with the "disappointing" characterization. (Still,
John Carter wasn't nearly as bad as some make it out to be. What a shame that this movie was considered derivative when so many of the supposedly tired tropes in the story
originated with
Edgar Rice Burroughs.)

The Fly (1986 version) |
As antidote, consider "
19 science fiction movies that could change your life." I don't think I'd go as far as life-changing, but the movie caliber on
this list is definitely higher than on the first.

Godzilla |
Too busy for movies? How about "
21 Pictures that Sum Up the Whole History of Science Fiction?"
OD'ed yet on retrospection? Then (courtesy of the ever-amusing Onion), anticipate "
New Season Of 'Downton Abbey' Jumps Forward To Year 2121."
And you can always look forward to my next post.
